Notice of Public Meeting

Thursday, October 26, 2023

A public information meeting will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS Yorktown (Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, 40 Patriots Point Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464). A presentation providing an overview of the study findings and potential remediation measures will begin at 6:30 PM. Attendees may also drop in anytime during the meeting to discuss the project and have their questions answered by subject matter experts. Formal verbal comments will not be taken at this time. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and provide written comments regarding the proposed work. Informational displays, handouts, and comment forms will be available.

The purpose of this public meeting is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss individually, with representatives from SCOR, the proposed remediation. Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather local knowledge from the public or any interested organizations regarding historic or cultural resources. About the Project

Governor Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2022-20, which directs the South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) to begin the process of removing hundreds of thousands of gallons of toxic pollutants from the USS Yorktown by commissioning an updated cost study for the project.
