Hurricane Helene CDBG-DR Mitigation Set-Aside: Voluntary Buyouts

The South Carolina Office of Resilience is administering a Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery program, a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additional information about SCOR's CDBG-DR grant can be found in the HUD-approved Action Plan here.

SCOR will provide funding to units of local governments in the HUD-identified MID areas for voluntary buyouts of residential property. Buyouts, in and of themselves, are mitigation measures that return parcels of land for uses compatible with open space, recreational, natural floodplain functions, wetlands management practices, or ecosystem restoration. Moving citizens from harm’s way reduces the loss of life and property damage.
