The 54 recommendations in the Strategic Statewide Resilience and Risk Reduction Plan are intended to improve the ability of communities, economies, and ecosystems within South Carolina to anticipate, absorb, recover, and thrive when presented with environmental change and natural hazards.
Additionally, they serve as a framework to guide state investment in flood mitigation projects and the adoption of programs and policies to protect the people and property of South Carolina from the damage and destruction of extreme weather events. Implementation of these recommendations will require action at the local, state, and federal levels of government as well as participation of the private and non-profit sectors.
The process of implementation will allow for development of coordinated resilience efforts and the identification of projects that maximize the benefit to South Carolinians while minimizing the risk of failure to adjust appropriately to current and future conditions.
