The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced that the State of South Carolina will receive $150,354,000 in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene.

According to HUD, “These flexible grants help cities, counties, Indian tribes, and States recover from Presidentially declared disasters, especially in low-income areas, subject to availability of supplemental appropriations. Since CDBG-DR assistance may fund a broad range of recovery activities, HUD can help communities and neighborhoods that otherwise might not recover due to limited resources.”

SCOR Offers Disaster Case Management

Disaster Case Management (DCM) is a process involving a partnership between a disaster case manager and a citizen impacted by a disaster to help in the long-term with their disaster-caused needs—whether these are financial, physical, or emotional. Case Managers work with individuals to develop and carry out an Individualized Recovery Plan, with a focus on problem solving and connection to resources and services. SCOR's Disaster Case Management team is holding Mobile Intake events in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. Anyone with disaster-caused unmet needs may drop-in at a mobile intake event without an appointment to speak with a Disaster Case Manager. Action Plan Public Meetings

In addition to submitting comments and questions online or by mail, the SCOR team held multiple public meetings in areas that Hurricane Helene impacted. At these meetings, we presented an overview of the Draft Action Plan and then welcome comments and questions from attendees. All comments and questions were documented, addressed, and will be reported to HUD when SCOR submits the Action Plan for review in late June, 2025. Funding Opportunities for Organizations Working in Disaster Recovery

Each Friday, SCOR's Disaster Recovery VOAD Coordinator sends out a current list of funding opportunities. To be added to this mailing list, please contact ML.Resch@scor.sc.gov.

1) Spartanburg County Foundation Disaster Relief Fund (https://spcf.org/impact/disaster-relief/)

The Spartanburg County Foundation Disaster Relief Fund provides grants of up to $10,000 for nonprofit organizations recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. These organizations must be providing relief, recovery, and rebuilding assistance to Spartanburg County residents affected by natural or manmade disasters to qualify for this grant.

Note that agencies may apply more than once if additional funding is needed.

2) Truist Foundation (Apply Here)

We support our communities by investing in innovative nonprofits that align with our key areas of focus: building career pathways to economic mobility and strengthening small businesses. Deadline 7/31/25.

3) Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust (Apply Here)

To empower veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity, the DAV Charitable Service Trust operates one primary endeavor. Through the provision of financial assistance to other, not-for-profit organizations, the Trust ensures that charitable initiatives around the country have the resources they need to benefit our nation’s heroes. Deadline 7/31/25.

4) Nord Family Foundation (Apply Here)

The Nord Family Foundation grants to non-profit organizations qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and to selected public sector activities. Grants are awarded in the fields of Arts and Culture, Civic Affairs, Education and Health and Social Services. Most grants are made for program related activities, with some grants to support capital improvements and capital campaigns when special criteria are met. Projects that are directed at the root causes of social problems are of special interest. Deadline 8/1/25.

5) TD Charitable Foundation (Apply Here)

The Foundation offers regional grants related to Non-Profit Training, Capacity Building, and Community Sponsorship. Deadline 8/1/25

6) Southern Partners Fund (Apply Here)

Applicants must meet SPF’s guidelines and focus on grassroots community organizing in the rural South in one or more of SPF’s primary or other focus areas. Discretionary Funding Areas include:

• General Discretionary: community organizing activities or small projects that aim to create change in SPF’s 12-state region.
• Technical Assistance: capacity building, strategic planning, organizational development, training and technology upgrades, and
• Travel Assistance: conference travel and participation or civic engagement activities.

7) The Joanna Foundation (Apply Here)

Supporting the Quality of Life, Including New Programs, General Operations, and Capital Support in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties and the Communities of Newberry & Joanna. Deadline 8/13/25.

8) The Lipscomb Family Foundation (Apply Here)

The Lipscomb Family Foundation funds 501(c)3 organizations that support youth under the age of 19 who reside in the following South Carolina counties: Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter. Deadline 8/25/25.

9) Aflac via the Central Carolina Community Foundation (Apply Here)

Aflac Group’s grant program focuses on supporting organizations with a local, rather than a national or international, perspective. Aflac Group accepts grant proposals from nonprofit organizations located in and serving South Carolina. Deadline 9/15/25.

Eligible Program Areas:

• Health & Well-Being (Preference will be given to pediatric cancer and services for their families)
• Education (Preference will be given to life skills and traditional educational programs supporting school-aged children)

10) The Duke Endowment Child & Family Well Being Pre-Application (Apply Here)

This program provides funding for:

• Implementation support for evidence-based programs/​implementation support for grants.
• Advocating for System improvements grants prioritize educating and advocating with policy makers, public funders, public agencies and others to accelerate policy and practices changes.
• Advancing innovation grants reflect our investment in projects that advance innovation when high-achieving, successful models are lacking.

These grants support Technical Assistance for capacity building, strategic planning, organizational development, trainings, and technology upgrades. Apply by 7/31/25.

13) Greenwood Community Response Fund (https://www.greenwoodcf.org/community-response-fund-application/)

This is an initiative of the Greenwood County Community Foundation meant to bring philanthropic donors and businesses together in support of those nonprofit organizations providing relief after natural or man-made disasters or undertaking preparations for future similar events.

14) Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation (https://www.dominionenergy.com/our-company/customers-and-community/charitable-foundation/applying-for-a-grant)

Grants from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation are distributed in four focus areas (human needs, environmental stewardship, education, community vitality) and are limited to organizations defined as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.

Grant applications will be accepted online during the fall grant cycle. (8/4-9/15/25)

Most grant awards range from $1,000 to $15,000, while higher amounts may be awarded when a program is an exceptional fit. They often receive funding requests far more than their Foundation budget. Regrettably, they must often decline support for otherwise worthy proposals. Such a response does not reflect on Dominion Energy's view of the value of the organization or its services.

15) Central Carolina Community Foundation One SC Fund (https://www.yourfoundation.org/impact-initiatives/one-sc-fund/)

The One SC Fund is a statewide initiative supported by philanthropic donors and funders from across the state and country. 99% of all money donated to the One SC Fund will be granted to local nonprofits providing disaster relief and recovery in South Carolina. The remaining 1% of money donated will be directed to outreach, research, reporting, and the administration and oversight of grant contracts. Applicants may request up to $50k.

16) Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area 2026 Community Grants (Apply Here)

The Community Foundation for the CSRA only considers applications from 501(c)(3) organizations providing programs and services directly benefiting individuals living in Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina, and Burke, Columbia, Richmond, and McDuffie counties in Georgia. Organizations meeting pressing and changing needs in the community in the areas of education and youth enrichment, health and environment, arts, culture, history and assistance for people in need are invited to apply.
